State Lawmaker Holding "Shed the Meds” Program in Bellmore

State Sen. Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr., R-Merrick, has announced that he willΒ be sponsoring β€œShed the Meds” programs in Bellmore and Lindenhurst to helpΒ residents safely dispose of unused or expired medications.

The β€œShed the Meds” programs will be held onΒ Saturday, June 29Β fromΒ 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.Β at the following locations:

  • Bellmore Train Station Far West Parking Lot, Northwest corner of Sunrise Highway and Centre Avenue
  • William Rall Elementary School, 761 North Wellwood Avenue, Lindenhurst

Participating in the programs is easy; residents will be able toΒ drive up, drop off their old or unused medications, and drive away. AllΒ collected medication will be safely disposed of by officers from the NassauΒ County Police Department and the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office who willΒ be supervising the programs.

Safe disposal helps protect the environment and eliminates the riskΒ of these drugs getting into the hands of small children or those who might misuse them.Β

Improper disposal of medications, such as pouring them downΒ the drain or flushing them down the toilet, can potentially pollute localΒ waterways.
