Teacher's Tools Slated to Close This Summer

Less than a month after another Bedford Avenue tenant shut down abruptly, there is news of another as Teacher's Tools has announced it too will be shuttering the store this summer.

Angela Villarico and her mother, Sally Desmond opened the educational supply store in 2005. The pair said the closure is a sign of changing times in the technology world.

"We are closing because it's time," Villarico added. "The teaching profession has changed. Technology has changed with the Internet, iPads and Smart Boards - people just don't buy the same things they used to."

Villarico said she has fond memories of Bedford Avenue, most notably her customers and the Bellmore Family Street Festival.

"We love our store," she added. "We love educating the community and giving tools for others to educate their children and students. Thank you to all the people who helped keep us around this long."

Teacher's Tools will close at some point throughout the summer, but no later than Aug. 1, Villarico confirmed. All items in the store are discounted from now until the closure.

Tina Roberts, co-owner of Creative Corner on Bedford Avenue, said as small businessowners, they are very aware of the economic climate on Long Island.

"It's not good for local business when so many keep closing," Roberts added. "Times are really tough and now more than ever small businesses need the support of the local community."
