Teen Taken To Hospital After SUV Goes Into Creek In Hit-And-Run On Long Island: Cops

Her SUV was rear-ended, causing it to swerve into the creek, Nassau police said.

BELLMORE, NY — A 17-year-old girl was taken to a local hospital after a hit-and-run driver's vehicile struck her SUV, causing it to swerve into a creek in Bellmore, Nassau police said.

The girl had been driving a black 2024 Chevrolet Equinox eastbound on Merrick Road just after 9 p.m., when a red vehicle driven by an unknown driver, struck the rear of her SUV, causing her to lose control of it, according to police.

The collision caused the SUV to swerve off the roadway, strike a fence and continue into Whaleneck Creek Culvert, police said, adding that she got out of her vehicle safely and awaited police arrival.

No vehicular fluids were discharged into the creek, police said.

The operator of the red vehicle left the scene without properly identifying themselves, according to police.
