This Week in Blogs: Fighting Cancer With Exercise, Children's Events Coming Up

Top opinion pieces from Patch users this week.

Every day on Patch, locals share their opinions on a variety of subjects.

Here are some of the most interesting blogs from the past week:

  • Fighting Cancer with Exercise: Strength for Life: What if you heard that exercise has a 50 percent reduced risk of recurrence? That exercise reduces treatment related fatigue? Reduced nausea?  Well, YES – it does all that and more.
  • Children's Events at the Massapequa Library: Here’s an upcoming event at the Massapequa Library’s children’s room that you won’t want to miss.
  • Finding Balance: Finding balance. The battle we fight every day. Too much work, crazy schedules or not enough time to do the things we enjoy. Speaking of enjoyment, SUP’ing is my “thing”.
  • Watchwords: Throughout Levittown's suburban history - from World War Two to the Baby Boomers to the post-Soviet world of the Internet - we've lived with terms without considering their curious historical origins.
  • The Journey to be Published: I’m on a journey. The journey of a non-famous, non-wealthy, “new” face that believes her manuscript is book worthy. Many questions can be asked of such an author.
  • Massapequa Girls Varsity Volleyball — Undefeated Season: The undefeated Massapequa Girls Varsity Team (12-0) meets East Meadow (12-2) in the Nassau County Class AA quarterfinals at 5pm on Wednesday 10/30 at the High School.  The Varsity squad has won 13 straight Nassau County Titles.
  • Mepham's Annual Fashion Show: The confident participants show off their spicy clothes at Mepham's Fashion Show. The people hosting were hilarious and did a fantastic job on keeping the event entertaining. The clothes were fabulous and looked great on the students. Fashion is always an entertaining topic but a show makes it spectacular!
  • Denenberg Hosts Community Policing Meeting: Nassau County Legislator Dave Denenberg, D-Merrick, speaks with Seaford constituents Mr. & Mrs. Robert Burns during his Community Policing Meeting, which was held on Oct. 16 at the Seaford Library.
  • The Posse: We certainly couldn't be described as cougars but we are definitely a posse. We travel together, bound by camaraderie, friendship, but primarily by human kindness. Most of us have not been childhood friends, as a matter of fact, I don't believe any of us were.
