CENTRAL ISLIP, NY — A 15-year-old was indicted on charges including second-degree attempted murder after shooting two people at a Central Islip apartment complex pool in June, Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney said.

According to the investigation, on June 19 at about 4:30 p.m., two groups of teenagers engaged in a physical altercation at the Hawthorne Living apartment complex swimming pool, the DA said.

Moments after the fight broke out, the teen reportedly pulled a firearm from his backpack and fired at least 10 rounds that struck two victims, the DA said.

Seven of the shots struck his intended target; the other victim was an adult female who was accompanying the juvenile victim that day, Tierney said.

The teen fled the scene after the shooting, Tierney said. Suffolk County police recovered 10 spent shell casings and multiple stray bullet fragments, one of which entered a nearby apartment, the DA said.

No other victims or injuries were reported, the DA said.

On August 14, Suffolk County police investigators, along with members of the United States Marshal Services of New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force and the District Attorney’s Gang Task Force, apprehended and arrested the teen in Amityville, Tierney said.

On Tuesday, he was arraigned on the indictment before Acting Supreme Court Justice Karen Kerr on charges including one count of second-degree attempted murder, a Class B violent felony; one count of first-degree assault, a Class B violent felony; two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, Class C violent felonies; one count of second-degree assault, a Class D violent felony; and one count of first-degree reckless endangerment, a Class D felony, Tierney said.

Justice Kerr ordered the teen held on $500,000 cash, $1 million bond, or $2.5 million
partially secured bond during the pendency of the case, the DA said.

He is due back in court on October 21 and faces 3⅓ to 10 years in prison if convicted of the top count, Tierney said.

He is being represented by Pierre Bazile, who did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

"This violence has no place in our community," said Tierney. "My office will do everything in its power to seek swift justice for the victims."
