Brentwood High Salutes First Veteran Honorary Graduate

When Brentwood's Kenneth S. O’Brien enlisted in the United States Armed Forces during his senior year of high school at Brentwood in 1987, he was deployed before graduation.
Fast forward a few decades and the Brentwood Union Free School District awarded its first honorary high school diploma to O'Brien on August 22 as part of New York State’s Operation Recognition, which salutes veterans who enlisted in the military before graduating high school.

After he served in the military, he worked in the New York Police Department for two decades.
O’Brien was conferred as a graduate of Brentwood High School in front of his family, including his daughters Grace and Charlotte O’Brien.

Superintendent of Schools Wanda Ortiz-Rivera presided over the graduation ceremony, which took place during the board of education’s business meeting at the Ross Center Auditorium.
