Central Islip High School Class Of 1984 Hosts Panel For Upcoming Graduates

Panelists from the military, law, education, and business shared life advice with students.

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY — The Central Islip High School Class of 1984 returned to their alma mater on Thursday to host a panel discussion for the Class of 2026, sharing personal stories, professional insights, and advice for life after graduation.

Principal Eric Haruthunian welcomed students and staff before introducing Brigadier General Douglas McArthur McBride Jr., a retired U.S. Army officer, who led the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Central Islip Concert Choir followed with a performance of God Bless America, according to a school press release, and New York State Supreme Court Justice and proud Central Islip alumnus James E. Walsh Jr. delivered the opening remarks.

Reflecting on his upbringing in the community, Walsh Jr. spoke about the pride he feels for his school and encouraged students to pursue their goals with purpose and integrity.

The alumni panel took the stage to share their experiences and guidance with the Class of 2026. Panelists included Walsh Jr., Brigadier General McBride, Personal and Professional Development Coach and Author Darlene (Aiken) Williams, Corporate Vice President of Succession Planning at New York Life Insurance Co., John K. Mitchell, NYPD Sergeant William Balunas, Suffolk County Police Department Officer Patrick Sicignano, Director of Human Resources at the Ross School Lisa (Sierra) Phillips-Rispoli and Senior Staff Attorney at Lawyers for Children, Inc. and Director of the LGBTQIA+ Project, Linda Diaz.

At the conclusion of the program, Judge Walsh presented special gifts to Amy Harrington, advisor of the Central Islip High School Legal Eagles mock trial team, and team captain Luis Blanco, in recognition of their leadership and commitment to teaching students about the justice system.

The event celebrated the lasting bonds of the Central Islip community while motivating current students to embrace their futures with confidence and pride, the district said.
