Couple Accused Of Running $2M Narcotics Distribution Ring from Their Suffolk Home: DA

"This wasn't just a drug bust. It was a ticking time bomb sitting in the middle of a quiet neighborhood."

HOLBROOK, NY — A Holbrook couple was indicted after reportedly running at $2 million narcotics distribution ring from their home — and selling narcotics to an undercover police detective, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney said.

Caleb Moran, 28, and Jessica Medina-Rivas, 28, were each indicted on charges including operating as a major trafficker, Tierney said.

Following the execution of a search warrant at their home, police recovered about $2 million worth of cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl and other drugs, prosecutors said.

According to the investigation, on July 11, a Suffolk County police detective, acting in an undercover capacity, contacted Medina-Rivas and arranged to meet with her to purchase a quantity of cocaine, Tierney said.

During the transaction, Medina-Rivas reportedly advised the undercover officer that she could get “anything,” which officers inferred to mean that she had access to larger quantities of narcotics and a wide variety of illicit substances, prosecutors said.

On August 20, Moran and Medina-Rivas again met with the undercover officer for the purpose of selling narcotics for redistribution, the DA said. The couple sold the officer a knotted plastic bag containing a white powdery substance and a knotted plastic bag containing a tan, hard powdery substance, Tierney said. The bags contained more than three-and-a-half ounces of cocaine and .34 ounces of fentanyl, respectively, Tierney said.

On August 22, members of the Suffolk County Police Department executed a court-
authorized search warrant at the Holbrook home of Moran and Medina-Rivas, the DA said. Upon searching the residence, officers recovered 14 kilograms of cocaine, 12 kilograms of methamphetamine, and more than 3 ounces of fentanyl, Tierney said.

The DA said two unregistered firearms, ammunition suitable for use in a shotgun, and two bulletproof vests were also recovered.

Moran was ordered held on $2 million cash, $8 million bond, or $20 million partially secured bond, the DA said.

He is being represented by attorney Raymond Perini, who was not immediately available for comment. He is due back in court on Oct. 28.

Medina-Rivas was held on $2 million cash, $4 million bond, or $20 million partially secured bond during the pendency of the case, the DA said. Medina-Rivas is being represented by attorney George Duncan, who did not immediately return a request for comment. Her next court date is October 27.

"This wasn’t just a drug bust. It was a ticking time bomb sitting in the middle of a quiet neighborhood," said Tierney. "These two defendants were allegedly operating a dangerous drug trafficking operation out of their home that pushed deadly substances into our communities."
