LI Mother, Children Get Their Own Home After 6 Residences In 5 Years
The Central Islip Habitat for Humanity-built home will "will bring our family closer," mom says at Friday's key ceremony for the family.

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY — "Flora" came to Long Island from Nigeria and has had trouble finding safe and affordable permanent housing for her children, according to Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk. The nonprofit presented the family with the keys to a home in Central Islip on Friday, the first the family has owned after moving six times in five years.
“Owning our own home will bring our family closer. Being able to cook and bake together in a kitchen big enough for all of us will be wonderful. My daughter dreams of having her own room that she can decorate, and both my children are looking forward to having a backyard they can play in," she said, in a news release from Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk.
After arriving in America, Flora attended school and earned a professional certification. She helped build the home at 227 Calebs Path along with volunteers, and on Friday morning, officially received the key in a key presentation ceremony.
