Man Arrested, Charged In String Of Bank, Post Office Robberies: Police

The man robbed a Central Islip bank twice and attempted to rob a post office and another bank, police say.

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY —Suffolk County Police have arrested a man who they believe committed four robberies and an attempted robbery since May.

Andre Desvignes, 55, of Central Islip, was arrested and charged on Friday with four counts of third-degree robbery and one count of third-degree attempted robbery, police said.

After an investigation, detectives determined Desvignes was responsible for robbing the following places:

He also attempted to rob Bethpage Federal Credit Union, located at 1350 Deer Park Ave. in North Babylon, on Thursday, police said.

Desvignes was held overnight at the Third Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday.
