BRENTWOOD, N.Y. — A jury has found Albaro Chacon, 38, guilty of stabbing the mother of his children during a domestic attack inside their Brentwood home while multiple children were present, Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney said Wednesday.

The conviction followed a jury trial heard before acting Supreme Court Justice Anthony Senft Jr. Chacon, a Guatemalan national, now faces up to 15 years in prison on the top charge, the DA said.

The evidence at trial established that, on November 16, 2024, the woman, who slept in a separate room from Chacon, was awoken by the sound of her bedroom door slamming open and Chacon moving toward her with a knife pointed at her chest.

As Chacon tried to stab her, he told her, 'You are going to die here,'" the DA said.

She fought to redirect the knife away from her chest and Chacon, instead, stabbed her three times in the arm, the DA said.

She managed to push Chacon off, while keeping him away from her 2-year-old niece, who was also in the room, Tierney said. She then fled the bedroom and went outside, where she flagged down a passing motorist and called 911, the DA said.

Minutes later, while she waited for police, Chacon exited the house and approached her, the DA said.

At the same time, the woman's 6-year-old son emerged from Chacon’s car and begged his father to stop, she said.

The woman then saw her 5-year-old daughter in Chacon’s car and realized that he must have put both children in there before stabbing her — because they had been sleeping in their rooms when she went to bed, the DA said.

She ran back into the house to get away from Chacon and saw that the floor, where she had bled profusely, had been cleaned, and that the house smelled of bleach, Tierney said. The sheets that were on the bed where she was stabbed had also been removed by Chacon while she was outside calling 911, the DA said.

When the police arrived, they placed Chacon under arrest and transported the woman to South Shore University Hospital for treatment of her stab wounds, the DA said.

On November 19, Chacon was convicted after a jury trial on charges including one count of first-degree attempted assault, a Class C violent felony; one count of second-degree assault, a Class D violent felony; one count of tampering with physical evidence, a Class E felony; and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, Class A misdemeanors, the DA said.

Chacon is due back in court on January 5, 2026 for sentencing, the DA said.

He is being represented by Danielle Papa, who did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

"The devastating harm inflicted by domestic violence is far-reaching," Tierney said. "The defendant stabbed his girlfriend while children were present. Those children will live with the scars of that night for the rest of their lives."

Tierney urged anyone facing domestic violence to call 911 or Suffolk County’s S.T.O.P. Violence Against Women Program at 631-853-8222.
