CENTRAL ISLIP — A man was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison after fatally shooting someone three times following a verbal altercation in Central Islip in March, Suffolk County District Ray Tierney said.

Jeremias Anaribamoran, 47, a Honduran national, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, after shooting and killing his acquaintance, 40-year-old Gustavo Godinez-Carcamo, the DA said.

According to court documents and the defendant’s admissions during his guilty plea allocution, on
March 15, just before midnight, Anaribamoran and Godinez-Carcamo got into a verbal dispute while sitting in the back seat of a vehicle parked in front of the victim’s Central Islip home, Tierney said.

The pair, along with two others, had been socializing most of the day while consuming alcohol, Tierney said.

The confrontation escalated to deadly violence after Anaribamoran pulled out a 9mm pistol and
shot Godinez-Carcamo three times, the DA said. Godinez-Carcamo then fled to his home, less than half a mile away, on foot, officials said.

When Suffolk County police officers responding to the scene arrived, they attempted to render lifesaving measures to Godinez-Carcamo, who quickly lost consciousness, the DA said.

Central Islip - Hauppauge Volunteer Ambulance Corps EMS personnel also attempted to render aid and transported Godinez-Carcamo to South Shore University Hospital, but he was ultimately pronounced dead, the DA said.

An autopsy revealed that Godinez-Carcamo suffered multiple perforating gunshot wounds to his torso and right arm, Tierney said.

On March 18, Suffolk police homicide squad detectives arrested Anaribamoran during the early morning after surveilling his home for hours, Tierney said.

On Thursday, Anaribamoran pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, a Class A felony, before Acting Supreme Court Justice Karen Wilutis, Tierney said. Anaribamoran is expected to be sentenced to 25 years to life in prison, the DA said.

The United States Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement has lodged a detainer to take custody and deport Anaribamoran after he serves his sentence, Tierney said.

Anaribamoran is due back in court on October 23, and he is being represented by Katherine
Fernandez, who did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

"This senseless act of violence took Mr. Godinez-Carcamo’s life," said Tierney. "Today’s conviction will ensure that the defendant is forever removed from our streets."
