Police ID Off-Duty NYPD Officer Killed In LIE Crash

The man died after crashing his car into the median on the LIE Monday night.

BRENTWOOD, NY — A 30-year-old Hicksville man was killed after crashing his car on the Long Island Expressway Monday night, according to Suffolk police.

Ryan McKenna was driving a 2018 Nissan Frontier eastbound on the LIE, just west of Exit 53, when the car struck the median and overturned in the HOV lane at 10:55 p.m.

McKenna was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead. The car was impounded for a safety check.

According to an NBC New York report, McKenna was an NYPD officer who was off-duty at the time of the crash.
