Police: Woman Charged with Strangling Family Member

A 48-year-old Westchester woman was arrested on Sunday night for strangling a family member with a belt during a domestic dispute, New York State Police said. 

Jacqueline Levat was charged with criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, a misdemeanor. She was also charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and resisting arrest.

State troopers responded to Levat's Somers residence on Jan. 6 at about 10 p.m.

The woman was arraigned in the Somers Town Court and remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail. Levat was scheduled to appear in court on Monday, Jan. 7.
