2 People Died In BK Fatal Car Crashes Over The Weekend: NYPD

Micah Dukes, 29, of Albany, and an unidentified pedestrian were killed in separate incidents in Bed-Stuy and Crown Heights, police said.

BROOKLYN, NY — Two separate car crashes in Brooklyn over the Memorial Day Weekend left two people dead, resulting in one of the drivers being booked on charges, police said.

On Sunday, Micah Dukes, 29, of Albany, was killed after being ejected from a Honda Pilot that was struck by a Mercedes-Benz who had run a red light, attempting to flee a traffic stop in Bed-Stuy at about 5:28 a.m., police said.

The crash happened in the vicinity of Central Avenue and Gates Avenue, police said.

The driver of the Mercedes-Benz, Juan Lopez, 32, was taken into custody and faces a number of charges including reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and vehicular assault, police said.

EMS transported Dukes to NYC Health + Hospitals / Elmhurst, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

Crown Heights crash

The previous day in Crown Heights, a pedestrian was killed after being struck by two different cars at Atlantic Avenue and Bedford Avenue at about 9:18 p.m., police said.

The pedestrian had exited the sidewalk and apparently ran into the right lane of traffic when he was struck by the side mirror of a box truck and was thrown to the ground, police said.

He was then run over by the same box truck and a 2012 Acura MDX traveling east on Atlantic Avenue, police said.

EMS responded and pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene, police said.

Both vehicles involved remained at the scene. There have been no arrests, police said.

The NYPD has not released the identity of the victim pending family notification.
