BK Driver Dies From Medical Episode, Led To Six-Car Pileup: Police

Dimitri Kontoleon, of Dyker Heights, was driving his Volkswagen SUV on the Gowanus Expressway when he suffered a medical episode.

BROOKLYN, NY — A 51-year-old Brooklyn man died after suffering a medical episode while driving on the Gowanus Expressway, causing a six-car collision, police said.

Dimitri Kontoleon, of Dyker Heights, was driving his Volkswagen SUV west on the expressway at about 3:52 p.m. when he suffered a medical episode, leading him to strike a Ford van which then collided with an Acura sedan, police said.

The Volkswagen continued straight and struck a Mercedes SUV, causing the vehicle to crash into a Nissan SUV. Another Nissan SUV was subsequently hit, police said.

EMS transported Kontoleon to NYU Langone Medical Hospital/Brooklyn, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

Two other drivers were taken to the hospital in stable condition, police said.
