BK Man Sent To Prison, Shot Cop Responding To Domestic Call: DA
Raheen Joye, 43, will spend 19 years in prison after he pled to second-degree attempted murder, prosecutors said.
BROOKLYN, NY – A Brooklyn man has been sentenced to 19 years in prison after he opened fire on New York City police officers who were trying to arrest him following an incident with his girlfriend in 2022, Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced.
Raheen Joye, 43, was sentenced Friday by Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Jane Tully after he pled guilty to second-degree attempted murder, prosecutors said.
On Dec. 21, 2022, at about 8:50 a.m., at 277 Gates Avenue, police were called to the scene after the girlfriend of Joye called 911 following a domestic dispute where the 43-year-old kicked a hole in a wall, prosecutors said.

When Joye was told he was going to be arrested, he tried to run and three police officers tried to subdue him. Joye resisted and managed to pull a blue gun out of his pocket and fired one shot, striking officer Orlando Adorno in the foot, prosecutors said.
The Brooklyn man fled the scene and was chased by two other officers. A gun battle ensued and Joye was shot in the leg and was taken into custody, prosecutors said.

Joye was taken to Methodist Hospital and treated for two gunshot wounds to the leg. Adorno was also treated for a gunshot wound to the foot and another officer was treated for injuries to his ankle.
“Police Officers put their lives on the line every day while responding to all kinds of disputes. Luckily Officer Orlando Adorno, and the other responding officers, were not seriously injured or killed by this defendant’s decision to open fire on police. Today’s lengthy sentence holds him accountable for his actions,” Gonzalez said.
Besides his prison sentence, Joye was ordered to five years’ post-release supervision, prosecutors said.
