Brooklyn Man Killed Scooter Rider In 2020, Faces Charges: NYPD

The victim was operating a motorized scooter near the intersection of East 98 Street and Avenue N when he was struck by a 2012 Jeep SUV.

BROOKLYN, NY — A 25-year-old Brooklyn man has been arrested and charged in connection to a fatal 2020 vehicle collision that left one person dead, police announced Friday.

Victor Bourne, of Canarsie, has been charged with manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident, among other charges, police said.

On June 23, 2020, the victim was operating a motorized scooter near the intersection of East 98 Street and Avenue N when he was struck by a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee, police said.

The Jeep struck a tree and a fire hydrant before rolling over and colliding with several parked, unoccupied vehicles, police said.

Bourne, and another individual, exited the vehicle and fled the scene, police said.

The man was transported to Brookdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Bourne's next court appearance is on July 11 in Brooklyn Supreme Court.
