Brooklyn Man Struck By Hit-And-Run Driver Dies 12 Years Later: NYPD

Anthony​ Alvelo, 63, succumbed to his injuries from the hit-and-run on June 2, police said.

BROOKLYN, NY — A 63-year-old Brooklyn man struck by a hit-and-run-driver in 2012 has succumbed to his injuries and died last week, police said.

Anthony Alvelo, was walking east on 12th Street in Gowanus when he was struck by an unidentified vehicle travelling north on Third Avenue on Jan. 21, 2012, police said.

Alvelo suffered head and body trauma. He had been at NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn since the incident, police said.

The vehicle involved did not remain on the scene, police said. The driver remains at large.

There have been no arrests made, and an investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad.
