Brooklyn Nonprofit Hosts First Community Baby Shower
Moms for Moms celebrates single mothers with Community Baby Shower co-sponsored by Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso
On May 14th, Brooklyn nonprofit Moms for Moms hosted its first Community Baby Shower, celebrating 30 single mothers preparing for the arrival of their newborns. The festive occasion was co-sponsored by Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso who selected Industry City based Moms for Moms as one of six organizations to receive funding from his Brooklyn Community Baby Shower Fund.
Thanks to the generosity of Industry City (IC), the shower was held in a beautiful space on the IC campus. During the event, guests were invited to engage with perinatal and postpartum consultants Shamina Rao (Lactation), Lara Kohn Thompson (Movement), Christine George-Alexis and Paz Guzman (Doula/Lactation) who all graciously donated their time and expertise.
The expectant mothers enjoyed a delicious lunch as well as the chance to make meaningful connections with each other, sharing stories and providing support during this important time in their lives. The event’s photographer Kelly Giardina captured priceless moments of the day including individual photos of each mom under a gorgeous balloon arch donated by Jhodi Dunkley.

At the end of the celebration, the moms walked away, their arms filled with MfM gift bags, Newborn Baby Bundles, and Postpartum Recovery Kits.
MfM Founder Danielle Krupa said, “I couldn’t be happier with how the Community Baby Shower turned out. I was hoping for two things: first, that the moms would connect with the experts - have meaningful conversations, feel seen and heard, receive one-on-one advice, and second, that they would connect with each other. The happiness I felt watching them exchange phone numbers, take pictures together, share resources, and most of all, create community - that was everything. Mission accomplished.”
