This week at the Atlantic Terminal Target store in Brooklyn, Target hosted a back-to-school shopping event for 75 children from the local nonprofit Children of Promise, NYC. The organization, which has locations in Brooklyn’s Bedford Stuyvesant neighborhood and the South Bronx, aims to disrupt intergenerational cycles of trauma and poverty to help children and families affected by mass incarceration thrive.

“We’re so excited about our partnership today with Target, which allows our families to shop and be able to start school with a level of dignity and respect. And excitement, as every child deserves,” said Sharon Content, Executive Director, Children of Promise, NYC. “We really thank Target for allowing our families to shop today. This shopping experience really allows them to choose the things that their family most needs.”

Target gave each child a $100 Target gift card and backpack, in partnership with Champion. Target team members also helped the students shop for back-to-school essentials with their gift cards.
