The next hiring event will take place in Manhattan on August 8.

NEW YORK, NY — The city is hiring school crossing guards for the coming school year, but you have to sign up for a "hiring hall" event to be considered for the position.

The next hiring hall will take place on August 8 in Tribeca at 125 Barclay St., Room 1. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

You have to reserve a spot ahead of time by calling (212) 815-1021. Reservations will be accepted starting at 9 a.m. on August 3. (A hiring hall scheduled for June 25 has already reached capacity.)

A few details on the job:

  • You'll be a union member that's part of AFSCME's District Council 37
  • The job comes with health insurance and benefits
  • You'll work 20 hours or more per week
  • You must be able to speak and understand English
  • You should come to the hiring hall prepared to fill out an employment application
