One person was critically injured and two firefighters suffered minor injuries before crews brought the blaze under control in about an hour, as fire marshals now work to determine what sparked it.

2. Nurses’ Strike Threat In Brooklyn Ends With Tentative Hospital Agreements (patch.com) — Brooklyn readers can breathe easier after nurses at several local safety-net hospitals, including Maimonides and The Brooklyn Hospital Center, called off a looming strike thanks to tentative contract agreements. The deals promise guaranteed healthcare benefits, stronger staffing protections, and workplace safety measures, though nurses citywide still warn they’re ready to strike if broader negotiations fail.

3. Elderly Man’s Attacker Arrested After Brooklyn Shovel Attack: Cops (patch.com) — Brooklyn residents are learning more about a disturbing post-snowstorm assault in Gravesend, where police say a 71-year-old man was struck in the face with a shovel near Stryker Court and West First Street. Officers have arrested 24-year-old local resident Sean Abt, and the victim, treated at Coney Island Hospital, is reported in stable condition as the case moves toward arraignment.

4. NYU Langone Hospital–Brooklyn celebrates 10 years in Sunset Park (brooklyneagle.com) — NYU Langone Hospital–Brooklyn just marked 10 years since merging with Lutheran Medical Center in Sunset Park, celebrating with food trucks and goodie bags for staff and patients.
