14-Year-Old Boy Killed While Trying to Pull a Stunt on L Train
Kenny Kagan was riding between two train cars when he tried to jump to the platform, falling to his death, police said.

EAST NEW YORK, BROOKLYN — A 14-year-old boy was killed on Wednesday while trying to perform a stunt on the L train at around 10:45 p.m., police said. Kenny Kagan was riding between two train cars on a southbound L train, lost his balance, and fell under the moving train.
Kagan told his friend he was going to jump from the train to the platform at the New Lots subway stop, but he fell while attempting to jump. The teen was struck repeatedly by the train and pronounced dead on the scene, police said.
"I am heartbroken to hear of the loss of a 14-year-old boy as he attempted to perform a stunt on an L train riding through East New York, Brooklyn," Council Member Rafael Espinal, who represents the area where Kagan was killed, said in a statement Thursday.

Espinal urged the MTA to put up warning signs about riding on the outside of trains.
"My thoughts and prayers go out to this young man’s family, but in the wake of a similar incident only 4 days ago on the F line, I wonder if there is more that can be done to raise public awareness amongst our youth of the dangers of extreme joy riding on trains. I urge the MTA to include statistics and warnings about riding on the outside of trains in their advertisements. I would also like to work with the City Council’s Transportation Committee to host an oversight hearing with NYC Transit on accidents of this nature and possible actions we can take to protect our commuters from these avoidable fates."
