Armed Robbers Target Brooklyn Hotel Guests: NYPD

Two guests lost cell phones and cash in the Brownsville break-in, police say, and one was cut on the head.

BROWNSVILLE, NEW YORK — Police are looking for two men (pictured above) alleged to have assaulted and robbed two guests at the Howard Johnson Brooklyn hotel in Brownsville on the night of April 23.

The victims, a man and a woman who are both 38 years old, were staying at the hotel, located at 524 Rockaway Ave., when the suspects entered their room, police said.

The two men flashed a gun, according to the NYPD, then hit the male hotel guest on his head, cutting him.

They were able to grab with a Galaxy cellphone, an LG cellphone and an unknown amount of cash before fleeing with the loot, police said.

According to detectives, the robbers were last seen wearing black vests and black jeans.

Tips can also be text-messaged to the NYPD by texting 274637 (CRIMES), then entering TIP577.

The NYPD runs a free program known as Operation ID that lets residents register their electronic devices with the department. That way, if cops recover a phone or another valuable item after it is stolen, they can return the item to its rightful owner.

The alleged crime described above took place in the NYPD's 73rd Precinct. According to police statistics, through April 24, major crimes in the 73rd were collectively up nearly 3 percent compared to the same time period last year.

A total of 104 robberies had been reported in the precinct through April 24, compared to 102 during the same period in 2015.
