East Flatbush Car Thief Critically Injures Woman, 2 Toddlers While Fleeing Police
The driver of a stolen Tahoe slammed into three pedestrians at Rutland and Remsen while being chased by an NYPD cruiser, police say.

EAST FLATBUSH, BROOKLYN — A woman and two young children, aged 2 and 3 years old, were critically injured Monday morning at the awkward intersection where Rutland Road meets Remsen Avenue, on the border of East Flatbush and Brownsville, by a man fleeing police in a stolen Chevy Tahoe, according to the NYPD.
"The vehicle was stolen, so the the perpetrator sees police and obviously takes off," an NYPD spokesman told Patch.
The crash occurred within a block of the spot where the police chase began, the spokesman said.

A fourth person was also hospitalized with "serious injuries," the fire spokesman said, but was expected to live.
The fourth injured person was driving another vehicle, a Nissan Pathfinder, and was likewise hit by the Chevy Tahoe, according to the NYPD.
The male driver of the Tahoe is now in custody on suspicion of stealing the vehicle, police said Monday.
Google Maps shows the crash site is near a school crossing, although it's unclear which school it belongs to.
A witness named Eric Wiseman, 50, told DNAinfo:
"The car was flying up Remsen. It had to be going 50. It jumped across the island. The car hit the woman dead on. I've never seen anything like that. ... She was on the ground. She was face down on her stomach, laying in the middle of the street. There was a lot of blood coming from her head. There was a baby carriage about 10 feet from her. The baby was in the carriage on the curb."
