Brownsville: Here's a List of Your Neighborhood NYPD Officers

A team of eight Neighborhood Coordinating Officers in Brownsville, Brooklyn, are part of a new community policing effort by the NYPD.

BROWNSVILLE, BROOKLYN — A new movement to reintroduce community policing to NYC neighborhoods is rolling out across the city.

Approximately half of all New York City Police Department (NYPD) precincts will have installed eight Neighborhood Coordinating Officers (NCOs), as they're called, by the end of 2016. And the 73rd Precinct — covering Brownsville and Ocean Hill — is already on board.

The neighborhood is split into four quadrants, labeled A through D on the map below. Each quadrant is patrolled by two NCOs, as are most other NCO-participating precincts.

Each NCO has a department-issued cell phone and email address, which they'll hand out to residents who want to report nearby crime or quality-of-life issues. We've reached out to the officers for their cell numbers, and will update this post if and when we receive that information.

Until then, here are their names and email addresses, in case you want to reach out.

The NYPD launched the NCO program last year, in hopes of establishing and deepening community ties while reducing crime. NYC's newly appointed Commissioner James O'Neill helped develop the program, and has said he plans to make it a priority.

While major crimes across NYC have reached historic lows, mistrust toward police has spiked in some neighborhoods, especially following high-profile cases across the nation of police using excessive force. To combat these perceptions, the NCO program is designed to create an open and transparent line of communication between local cops and neighborhood residents.
