Brownsville Man Arrested For Allegedly Committing 'Brutal' Grocery Store Robbery
23-year-old Denzell Oglesby was charged in federal court this week in connection with a violent robbery.
BROWNSVILLE, BROOKLYN — Brownsville man Denzell Oglesby was arrested Wednesday in federal court in the Eastern District of New York and charged with the armed robbery of a convenience store in Brownsville, U.S. Attorney Robert Capers said. In a particularly brutal store robbery on Aug. 16, 2016, 23-year-old Oglesby pointed a gun at the convenience store clerk, jumped over the store counter and forced the clerk to the floor, surveillance video shows.
His co-conspirator, who wore a shirt wrapped around his head with holes for eyes, struck the clerk in the head and fought with him while Oglesby stole cash and other items from the store, video captured, according to the U.S. Attorney's office. Oglesby repeatedly punched the clerk in the head, struck him in the head with the gun and he and his partner fled, according to the federal criminal complaint. His partner remains at large, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.
Oglesby was charged with grand larceny and is currently being held at Riker's Island, the complaint shows. He was arrested on Oct. 20, 2016 for using stolen credit cards, and law enforcement then showed him the surveillance footage of the grocery store robbery, the complaint said. After seeing the footage, Oglesby admitted to law enforcement his involvement in the robbery, according to the complaint.
