Police said they responded to a call of a person shot at 1308 Loring Ave. (one of the Pink Houses buildings) just after 12:30 a.m. last Wednesday.

A little over two hours later, at around 2:50 a.m., Figueroa was declared dead at Brookdale University Hospital, police said.

A GoFundMe was set up by Figueroa's sister-in-law to support her funeral arrangements and her three young children.

"Not only did Salaya leave behind lots of friends and family who loved her dearly, three young gorgeous children who will be in need of love and support ( ages 9, 7 and 4 years old )," her sister-in-law wrote on the GoFundMe page. "These children are now left without a mother to care for them. I would like for them to lay their mother in peace in the nicest [way] possible."
