Driver Arrested for Killing 2 in East New York Hit-and-Run: NYPD
Two men were fatally struck by a speeding Acura in Cypress Hills on Monday, police say. The driver fled but was arrested Tuesday.

CYPRESS HILLS, BROOKLYN, NY — Police have arrested a man who allegedly fled the scene of a hit-and-run that killed two pedestrians early Monday morning in Cypress Hills.
Efrin Lanfranco-Perez, 21, a resident of Cypress Hills, was arrested Monday and charged by police with two counts of leaving the scene of an accident, as well as driving without a license.
Lanfranco-Perez had yet to be arraigned as of Tuesday afternoon, city records show.

According to the NYPD, Delman Maldonado, 41, of Glendale, and Israel Turcios, 56, of Cypress Hills, were hit just after midnight on August 1 at the intersection of Fulton Avenue and Chestnut Street.
Emergency medical responders pronounced Maldonado dead at the scene, police said. Turcios was transported to Brookdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to police, the victims were struck by an Acura TL sedan that was driving east on Fulton Street at a high speed. The car hit the pedestrians, as well as two parked cars at the intersection.

According to NYPD statistics, through May of this year, 189 pedestrians were injured by cars at Brooklyn intersections, but none were killed.
