EAST NEW YORK, BROOKLYN — A Brooklyn man will spend up to three years in prison on hate crime charges for attacking two people and shouting, “I kill white (expletive) like you," the Brooklyn District Attorney announced Thursday.

Kevin Raphael, 40, was sentenced to one-and-a-half to three years jail time Wednesday for a three-day stint of hate crimes that included punching two Brooklyn bus riders and threatening to kill a pregnant woman and her husband in July 2018, said prosecutors.

Raphael pretended to have a weapon when he told a 30-year-old man and his wife "I will kill ever white (expletive) around here" on Empire Boulevard and Rogers Avenue in Crown Heights on July 29 about 1 p.m., said prosecutors.

The next day, Raphael shouted, "I hate all you white (expletive) and punched a 29-year-old law student in the face on the B25 bus near Fulton and Bond streets in downtown Brooklyn, said prosecutors.

Raphael then boarded a B41 bus on Flatbush Avenue and Kings Highway on July 31 about 6:30 p.m., walked up to a 59-year-old man and repeatedly punched him in the head, prosecutors said.

“You white (expletive) think you got it like that," Raphael said, as he gave the man a concussion. "You white (expletive).”

Raphael, of East New York, pleaded guilty to assault as a hate crime on May 1, said prosecutors.

“As hate-fueled speech continues to emanate from the highest levels of government, leading to despicable acts of violence, it is important to set a different tone in Brooklyn where we will not tolerate hate crimes against anyone," said Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez.

"There is no place for discrimination or violence against anyone based on race, sexual orientation, gender, ethnicity or religious practice."
