Minivan Linked to East New York Murder, Police Say

EAST NEW YORK, BROOKLYN — The man who shot East New York resident Charles Jones on April 29 was dressed like a construction worker and fled the crime scene in a minivan, police said.

Jones, 41, was killed in front of his apartment building at 518 Pennsylvania Ave., police said — just steps away from PS 13, an elementary school.

Jones was shot in the head and torso, according to the NYPD. He was pronounced dead soon after at Brookdale Hospital.

According to the New York Daily News, Jones had been released from prison just two months earlier, after serving 14 years behind bars for a drug-related crime.

Police are now circulating the above photos of the suspect and his alleged getaway vehicle, in hopes a member of the public might recognize one (or both) of them.

Detectives described the minivan as a dark blue or black late model Dodge Caravan.

Jones was murdered within the bounds of the NYPD's 75th Precinct.

According to police statistics, through April 24, major crimes were collectively up about 1 percent in the 75th compared to the same period last year.

A total of 8 murders had been reported through April 24, compared with 9 during the same period in 2015.
