Mugger Beat Deliveryman With Knife In East New York: Police

One woman distracted the man delivering Chinese food while her companion attacked him from behind, the NYPD said.

EAST NEW YORK, BROOKLYN — Police are searching for two robbers who interrupted a deliveryman's run in East New York in March. The pair mugged the 34-year-old man as he was delivering Chinese food on Chestnut Court near City Line Park on March 31, the NYPD said.

An unknown woman approached the deliveryman around 11:14 p.m. that night before her male companion snuck up on him from behind, police said.

The male mugger hit the deliveryman in the face several times with the butt of a knife and took money and an iPhone from his pocket, then fled westbound on Wells Street with the young woman, the NYPD said.

An ambulance took the deliveryman to Brookdale Hospital, where he was treated and then released, police said.

Surveillance video captured the woman, thought to be 16 to 18 years old, fleeing the scene. She was described as black and was last seen wearing a blue shoulder bag.

Her companion is a black man of slim build between 18 and 20 years old, police said. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a black puffy vest.
