New Student-Run 'Farm Market' Debuts In Brownsville

The farmstand stocked with healthy groceries and snacks can be found Thursdays at the I.S. 392 schoolyard.

BROWNSVILLE, BROOKLYN — A new farmstand is bringing healthy snacks and groceries to Brownsville.

The student-run "farm market" has been set up at the I.S. 392 schoolyard near Blake Avenue and Legion Street, according to organizers with nonprofit Seeds in the Middle.

It is one of several put together with the help of the organization, which aims to combat health disparities with various programs and food-centered events.

School-run farm markets are also set up in Crown Heights and East Flatbush, according to the organizations latest newsletter.

Neighbors can visit the stands to buy healthy snacks for 50 cents each or pick up fruits, veggies or organic eggs. Families that can't make it during the stand's designated times can also order online so their child can take home a bag or pick up the food after hours, according to the post.

In Brownsville, the organization also has a drop-off point at P.S. 284.
