NYPD Cop's Finger Severed By Man Being Taken To Jail Cell: Source

A police source said the man began to resist and took an "aggressive stance" while being taken to a jail cell in the 69th precinct.

CANARSIE, NY — An NYPD officer who was transporting a suspect to a jail cell at the 69th precinct in Canarsie had his finger bitten off, a police source said.

The source said the incident happened just before 6 p.m. Friday and as the suspect was being transported, he began to resist the officer and took an "aggressive stance." While attempting to handcuff the suspect, both the officer and the suspect went to the floor, the source said.

The prisoner allegedly bit the officer's left middle finger from the nail to the tip, severing it, the source said.

The officer was taken to Kings County Hospital. The prisoner was finally constrained and taken to Brookdale Hospital, the source said.

The man, Ainsley Johnson, 34, of Brooklyn, was charged with assault on a police officer and resisting arrest, the NYPD said.

According to the police source, Johnson was originally arrested on two counts of third-degree criminal mischief for an incident that happened in the vicinity of E 99th Street and Avenue J.

Johnson was apparently having a dispute with somebody and kicked the rear passenger door and windows of the victim's BMW, the source said. He also allegedly smashed the victim's mailbox with a cement planter, the source said.
