Teen Arrested for Fiery Murder of Romulo Heras, Beloved Brooklynite
Jahkeem Scott, 18, allegedly slashed his victim across the throat and set his house on fire during a burglary near East New York.

CYPRESS HILLS, BROOKLYN — A local teen was arrested Wednesday and charged with murder, robbery, burglary and arson in connection to 61-year-old family man Romulo Heras' horrific death in January, according to the NYPD.
Heras was found unconscious by police and firefighters inside his burning home at 59 Logan Street on the morning of Friday, January 22.
Investigators soon determined that someone had slashed Heras' throat and stabbed his body repeatedly before setting the house on fire.
Now, 18-year-old Jahkeem Scott, who police said lives just a few blocks down Logan Street from the murder site, has been arrested for the heinous neighborhood crime.
Scott, pictured below, has been the NYPD's No. 1 suspect for the past four months.

On a GoFundMe page set up to cover Heras' funeral costs, his niece, Jessica, remembered her "dear uncle" as an amazing person" who left behind "a wife, a five year old daughter, an18 year old daughter, an older daughter, son and four grandchildren."
"Life is unfair at times and you did not deserve this,but we know that you loved us and we love you to.o," she wrote. "Thank you for being the amazing person you were. We will always keep you in our hearts Tio !"
A GoFundMe user Matt Greenbaum, who donated $50, wrote: "Thinking of Romulo and all of the lives he touched. He was a great man." Another user, Leslie Harris, wrote: "Romulo was a beloved man and an admired chef."
Photos posted to Heras' Facebook page show him spending the holidays with his kids and grandkids.
