Weeksville Man Shot Dead on Sunday Afternoon: NYPD

Unique Gilkes, 25, was found dead just one block from home, with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso, according to the NYPD.

WEEKSVILLE, BROOKLYN — A 25-year-old Weeksville man was shot to death on Sunday afternoon just one block from his home, according to the NYPD.

Police responded to a call shortly before 5 p.m. of a person shot in front of 1639 Saint Johns Pl.

Upon arrival, officers found Unique Gilkes with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso, police said.

Gilkes, who police said lived at 1545 Saint Johns Place, was transported to Brookdale Hospital where he was pronounced deceased, according to the NYPD.

No arrests have been made, and an investigation into the shooting is ongoing, according to the NYPD.

This shooting took place in the NYPD's 77th precinct. According to official police statistics, through May 29, major crimes were collectively down about 3.7 percent compared to the same time period in 2015.

Two murders were recorded in the precinct through May 29, up from one during the same period in 2015.

A total of 10 shootings wounding 11 people had been recorded through May 29. Last year, 11 shootings had wounded 14 people during that same time period.
