Bushwick Studio To Host Unusual Interactive Art Performances

The Exponential Festival, meant to promote interdisciplinary and participatory theater, is coming to Chez Bushwick this weekend.

BUSHWICK, BROOKLYN — An art festival several weeks long that aims to promote local NYC theatrical performances is coming to Bushwick this weekend to "keep theatre kicking." In Chez Bushwick, a disciplinary art space, three artists will perform for an eager audience this Saturday and Sunday. The Exponential Festival is now in its second year; this year, it takes place from Jan. 4 to 31.

In Chez Bushwick, the three artists to be featured will be LMnO3 (Cori Marquis, Deborah Lohse, Donnell Oakley), Charlotte Bydwell (THE NUDE WOMAN) and Megan Hill (DODO: A Theater Collective).

LMn03 is a group of three women who perform an interactive "evening of shape-shifting through ideas of what it means to be female today when old ideals still hold strong images in our collective conscious."

Bydwell performs the tale of a woman who becomes a naked art model posing for a group of "misguided" male artists who end up discussing her cellulite and the physical aftermath of childbirth. They are "oblivious to the discrepancy between the sensitivity of their brushwork and the crudeness of their thinking," Bydwell's description says.

Megan Hill of DODO is going to put on a show that asks what happens when an instructor has invested her life in a dying franchise: jazzercise. Her show is a real aerobics class happening in real time with the audience, meaning some tickets will be available for attendees who want to actually take the class. So wear your sneakers!
