Bushwick's Art Space Silent Barn Concert Takes 'Jazz Into The Dark Woods'

Come see 3 psychedelic performances by modern jazz artists who will "do wonderful, terrible things by the firelight."

BUSHWICK, BROOKLYN — Silent Barn, a public art space in Bushwick, is hosting a concert on Sunday with three jazz musicians who each have their own original musical style and aesthetic. According to the venue, Jonah Parzen-Johnson is a saxophonist living in Brooklyn who writes and performs so-called "lofi" music for solo saxophone and analog synthesizer. "Imagine the raw energy of an Appalachian Folk choir, tempered by a lofi, minimal aesthetic inspired by the music of Bill Callahan," the event says. Parzen-Johnson will perform everything live, with no pre-recorded samples.

The second group — Micah Gaugh, Marcela Lucatelli and Leon Gruenbaum — are a collaboration with a saxophonist from Panama, a vocalist from Brazil and a keyboardist from the NYC area. And finally, The Azerbaijan A/V Club will perform "psychedelic multimedia electronic jazz noise." That's a mouthful. Find more information about the event here. It begins at 8:30 p.m. at 603 Bushwick Ave.
