Kerry Weltman named principal at Kent Elementary School (midhudsonnews.com) — Carmel families will see a leadership change as Carmel High School assistant principal Kerry Weltman becomes principal of Kent Elementary School starting January 20, 2026. The Carmel Board of Education unanimously approved her appointment, praising her strong student connections and focus on a welcoming, collaborative school community for children and families.

Grants available for household repairs (midhudsonnews.com) — Income-eligible homeowners in Carmel and across Putnam County can now apply for state-funded grants to cover critical home repairs like roofs, heating, plumbing, and safety upgrades. Applications are available through Putnam Housing Corporation’s office at 11 Seminary Hill Road in Carmel, by phone, or online, and awards are made on a first-come, first-served basis with an asset cap.

Prosecutors say the crime stemmed from a dispute at his Carmel apartment and praised help from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and FBI in bringing the case to trial.
