America's Best Barista Comes To Smith St.
The champion cupper will be crafting coffee drinks at Smith Canteen Saturday afternoon

Think you love coffee? Have your mind blown and your palate expanded on Saturday afternoon when America's best barista makes a stop in Carroll Gardens to pull a few espressos.
Katie Carguilo, winner of the 2012 U.S. Barista Championship, will be at the Smith Canteen on Saturday, Nov. 10 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., making espresso drinks and two signature creations that are sure to intrigue even the most seasoned sipper.
One refresher will be a mix of naturally processed Ethiopian espresso from Counter Culture Coffee, jasmine green tea, lemon juice, nectarine mash, simple syrup, vinegar and soda water—the same drink submission that won Carguilo her title.Â

The second special drink is an Ethiopian espresso with goat’s milk that has been infused with roasted beets and sugar, then steamed.
Mini pain au chocolat with jasmine chocolate and a lemon Shaker tart, both made by Smith Canteen pastry chef Stephanie Alexander, will be sold as the perfect pairings for the beverages.
