Bites Nearby: Margaret Palca Bakes

The best thing we ate this week: a deliciously simple sandwich

on Columbia Street is known for many things: rugelach, for one, and sandwiches and airy rolls, too.

On a recent snowy afternoon I stopped in for a sandwich for the first time in nearly a year, and all was just as it had been when I last visited.

Same woman at the counter, same Margaret baking in the back and occassionally popping up in the front to help when a line formed. The same menu with, i'm pretty sure, the same prices. For $5 and change: black forest ham, camembert and dijon with a light kick on a whole wheat Palca roll.

It was good.

Palca's rolls are what make the sandwiches really great. They are airy yet chewy and even have a slight crunch.

Stop in to Margaret Palca's. Made to order breakfast sandwiches are available too!
