Brooklyn Community Leader Turns Down Deal In Stalking Case, Attorney Says
Craig Hammerman, the long-time district manager of Community Board 6, is charged with stalking and harassing his ex-girlfriend.

COBBLE HILL, BROOKLYN — The long-time district manager of Community Board 6 turned down a deal with the Brooklyn District Attorney's office Friday which would have seen him admit a violation but have more serious accusations against him conditionally discharged, according to his attorney.
Joyce David, the attorney, told Patch she believes Craig Hammerman is totally innocent of charges that he stalked and harassed the ex-girlfriend and is prepared to go to trial if necessary.
Hammerman is currently in the middle of a 60-day leave from his post as district manager of the community board, which represents Red Hook, Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, Gowanus and Park Slope. His next court date is not until August, which would put him back on the job with the legal cloud still hanging over his head.

Hammerman is "absolutely" ready to return to work when the 60 days is over, some time in the middle of July, David said. "Especially after when he gets back, he should be much better."
Hammerman appeared in court on Friday, according to David, and is about to leave the city for the rest of his leave from the board. He posted on Facebook that he was "heading to the desert for a month. Leaving Saturday. Spirit healing and soul cleansing."

CB6 Chair Sayar Lonial declined to comment in an email to Patch. The Brooklyn District Attorney's office also did not immediately return a request for comment from Patch on Friday afternoon.
