Luquer St. Residents React To Recent Muggings With Neighborhood Watch
A group of Carroll Gardens women are said to be actively monitoring the area, and signaling with flashlights.
Update, 10:00 a.m.:
Representatives of the 76th Precinct responded to inquiries Thursday morning and stated that they have no record of reported muggings on Luquer Street in the last year. This reflects the information that has been provided to Carroll Gardens Patch for our weekly police blotter column.
Police reiterated that if anyone has been the victim of a mugging, or any other incident in the area, to contact them immediately.Â

A group of concerned Carroll Gardens neighbors have been posting signs on Luquer Street between Hamilton and Clinton, warning fellow residents to remain on alert in response to recent muggings.

One of the signs reads:
"Be aware... There's been several muggings in the area recently. Victims have either been attacked from behind or in dimly lit places.
Pay attention to your surroundings. Protect yourself - take your headphones off, restrain [sic] from talking on the phone, try to walk with a buddy. Carry a whistle or a flashlight." — Concerned Neighbors
"The notices [pictured] are currently on the front door at 108 Luquer Street," said a resident named Paul, who contacted Carroll Gardens Patch. "As you can see, they are anonymous. But everyone on the street up to Court have been talking about this for weeks."
Paul added that "some of the local ladies have formed a watch group and they have flashlights that identify each other at night."
Calls to the to confirm the reports of an increase in crime were unresponded to as of press time. But if anyone has been a victim of an assault or mugging on Luquer Street and has not reported it yet to the authorities, please contact the precinct.
