Sister says victim was working on the apartment

The sister of the man stood on a frozen pile of snow outside the residence and art gallery this afternoon, fighting back tears.

"I came to see [where it happened,]" said Najla Sylvester, 31. "I still can't believe it."

Tajeme Sylvester, 31, was shot once in the head and once in the chest just before 6 p.m. last night.

Sylvester said her brother lived on Madison Street in Bed-Stuy and was doing renovations on the apartment, adding that her brother "knew the guy who lived there."

A police source confirmed the victim was not the tenant of the apartment.

Sylvester said she got the heart wrenching call about her brother at 3 a.m. last night.

"I have no clue [why this happened]," she said.
