Bicyclist Seriously Injured In Center Moriches Crash: Police

The crash took place Wednesday night, police say.

CENTER MORICHES, NY — A bicyclist was seriously injured in a motor vehicle crash in Center Moriches Wednesday night, police said.

According to Suffolk County police, the crash took place at 11:06 p.m. at the intersection of Brookfield Avenue and Frowein Road.

Marcial Yorwin Rubi Velasquez was riding a Varun electric bike southbound across Brookfield Avenue when he was struck by a 2016 Toyota sedan traveling westbound on Frowein Road, police said.

Rubi Velasquez, 28, of Center Moriches, was airlifted via Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, police said.

The driver of the vehicle, a 28-year-old Mastic woman, was not injured, police said.

The Toyota was impounded for a safety check; no charges were filed in the crash, police said.
