Brookhaven Town Supervisor Declares State Of Emergency Due To Storm

The storm whalloped parts of Long Island with heavy flooding, rain, erosion and power outages.

BROOKHAVEN, NY — Brookhaven Town Supervisor Daniel J. Panico declared a State of Emergency Wedneday "due to the occurrence of a Nor’easter and severe rain event in the Town of Brookhaven".

The state of emergency was effective at 8 a.m. Wednesday.

According to Panico, the North and South Shore communities of Brookhaven Town were "especially hit hard" by the storm that produced heavy rain, strong winds and flooding.

The Mastic area was hit especially hard, officials said.

As was Fire Island. "Fire Island is devastated. Preliminary reports have Fire Island Pine as the most affected community. Places where there were significant dunes are now totally gone. The water is now literally up to the homes," Panico said.
