Here are the top stories today in Center Moriches-Eastport:
- If you haven't noticed, the price of eggs has gone up by 50 percent, not only because of price gauging around Easter and Passover, but because the price of soybeans and corn to feed the chickens is up. Not to mention that about 17 million birds have died due to the avian flu outbreak, so what can we do? Eggs can last about three weeks, so check the expiration date and select the one that's at least three or four weeks out from the day you purchase. Also, store your eggs in the coldest part of your refrigerator, and throw out any eggs that are cracked as to not let the bacteria can leak around the rest of the eggs. (News 12 Long Island)
- On Friday, 24 people were left homeless after a blaze ripped through the former Sea View Motel located at 317 East Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays. They were left with nothing after the fire ripped through the building. The families with children are looking for reasonable housing so the children can continue school. Anyone with possible housing solutions is asked to email Jennifer Gonzalez at jennxgonzalez@aol.com. Please donate to the GoFundMe. (Patch)
- In support of the Ukrainians whose lives have been devastated the last six weeks by the Russian invasion, the William Floyd High School’s Medical Club held a fundraiser. Club members collected medical supplies, including antiseptics, bandages, burn ointment, first aid kits, gauze, ibuprofen and Tylenol. Donations were delivered to the St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Riverhead. (Greater Long Island)
- Netflix will film Julia Roberts movie, 'Leave the World Behind' in Riverhead this month. The town board approved a contract with Netflix productions allowing them to film on two days during the last week of this month; but we don't know which days. To be continued. (RiverheadLOCAL)
