1. Suffolk Police dog rescues 62-year-old woman in East Moriches. A Police dog helped rescue an East Moriches dementia sufferer who had been missing from her home this week for 17 hours. Canine Jax found the 62-year-old woman in the middle of a wooded near her home, police said. The woman was lying on a log — cold, shivering and wet. “We train our Canine dogs for these exact moments and on a cold December night, our training may have saved a life,” Suffolk police said in a statement posted on social media. “Once reported missing, an extensive search was conducted by uniformed officers, Aviation Section, Marine Bureau, and Canine Section,” the police statement said. “And while all of the human officers gave it their best effort, it was Canine Jax who found the woman! Great job to Jax and his handler, Canine Officer Ralph DiMasi.” The woman is safe and back home, authorities said. (Patch)
