  3. New York on the last day of 2021 recorded its highest one-day total of new coronavirus cases since the pandemic began. Long Island’s test positivity rates were higher than any other region in the state at nearly 23 percent, outpacing even New York City, which recorded a nearly 21 percent test positivity rate.   4. According to Southampton Town Police, a bicyclist was injured in a Flanders crash Sunday afternoon. The crash took place at 2:13 p.m. Charles Bloxon, 66, of Riverhead, was driving a 2020 Ford pickup west when the bicyclist, 49, from Flanders, who was heading north on Flanders Road, crossed into the intersection of Rt. 105 and was struck by the pickup. The bicyclist was taken by Suffolk County aviation to Stony Brook University Hospital to receive treatment for his injuries. No charges were filed in the crash. (Patch)
